Transit agencies are more than just buses and trains. They’re remarkable organizations, ferrying millions of passengers each day, usually to little fanfare. But without them, we’d need millions more cars, thousands more bridges and tunnels, and billions more barrels of oil. Transit agencies not only keep us from traffic apocalypse — they’re what keep our cities green, vibrant, nimble. That’s why this position is so important: you can be the “Robin” to the dozens of transit agency “Batmans” that use Transit to communicate with their riders.
Your mission — if you choose to accept it — is to find harmony between the communication needs of Transit’s many partners (transit agencies, but also private 🚲/🛴/🚖 operators) and Transit itself. Your work will touch millions of grateful riders, empowering them with a more reliable & delightful experience, whenever they commute without their own car.
The copy you write will sing in the same key as Transit’s brand voice, appearing on our own materials (like in-app banners, our website, policy papers, etc.) and on our partners’ materials as well, ones you’ll have to coordinate (think: city-wide bus wraps, bikeshare station signage, transit agency social media). You should feel comfortable hopscotching from a Montréal bikeshare project, to a small Ohio agency project, to a European scooter one, to working with LA Metro — sometimes all in the span of a single week. And, occasionally, you’ll pitch in as the official voice of Transit when a reporter comes aknockin’ 🎙🎵
It’s the perfect position for someone witty, organized, and sustainability-minded — bonus points if you have experience in the mobility biz.
